The Tan Beneath Your Wedding Band (Means You Don't Love Me Anymore)

(Jack Kennedy)
One day back in 1990, some friends and I were trying to conjure up the worst heart-break song titles we could. My friend Cov suggested one that his father had come up with. Eleven years later, that title was still in my head, just begging for lyrics............so, thanks to Cov, I have taken one giant step down the slippery slope of the "somebody-done-me-wrong" songwriting tradition.
Yellow daisies make me remember how it was for us before
Red roses meant you love me and promised evermore,
White blossoms on the trees meant we could hope for something more
but the tan beneath your wedding band means you don't love me anymore.

The clothes hung in our closet remind me of what we wore
The shells upon the dresser recall our walks along the shore
The bills stacked on the table
tell me we are a step away from poor
but the tan beneath your wedding band means you don't love me anymore.

I gave you my love, I gave you everything
I gave you all I cared about and more
I gave you all the best of me, I gave you all those memories
that you just don't remember anymore

Our hearts were young and happy for us it was amore
we honeymooned along the Seine and kissed at Sacre Coeur
These memories keep coming back as you walk out the door
but the tan beneath your wedding band means you don't love me anymore.

I gave you my love, I gave you everything
I gave you all I cared about and more
I gave you all the best of me, I gave you all those memories
that you just don't remember anymore

Yellow daisies could make me remember how it was for us before
Red roses could mean you're sorry for making my heart sore,
White blossoms on the trees could mean that we could hope for something more
but the tan beneath your wedding band means you don't love me anymore.
