Candle in the Night
A wisp of smoke rose from the candle just leaving an ember
I awoke, leaving behind more than I can remember
fire on the fuse, ignited by a muse,
what does it mean when smoke is in your dream?
Heard an ancient voice calling my name out from every direction
had to make a choice: pretend I was deaf or to make a connection
everything’s a blur as I search for her
no map or chart to lead me to her heart.
Blind with fright, each door that I found was missing the handle
lost at night, but off in the distance- the light of a candle
I saw her face, eyes full of grace
wind in her hair as smoke wisped through the air.
I am always hopin’ that your heart will open
that your heart will open someday…….
You’re the only reason, there’s no other reason,
you’re the only reason I stay……
Late every night, I lay in my bed, watch the fan on the ceiling
turn out the light and remember her face and recapture the feeling
all these dreams are clues, footprints of the muse
secrets from the deep she brings to me in sleep.
Searching for the dream, the more I remember the less I remember
far away it seems, it’s like years in between each July and December
gone without a trace but the feeling of that space
my only guiding light, a candle in the night.
Got to feel the fire, got to feel desire
got to take it higher than yesterday……
Headed your direction, need a course correction
Got to find connection with you any way….
Come around and kiss me, love’s not gonna miss me
life’s not gonna miss me if I have my way…..
