That's How I Wound Up In LA

(Jack Kennedy)
Everybody here is from somewhere else
That’s How I WoundUp In L.A.

I left Illinois when I was a boy
and found myself out on the road
had a chip on my shoulder when I got to Boulder
weary of my heavy load
when I ran out of work I hitched to New York
where I lasted a year and a day
took off for Nebraska via Fairbanks, Alaska
that’s how I wound up in L.A.

I followed Alice to her ranch near Dallas
and wound up as her hired hand
Shacked up with Ramona outside of Takoma
left her when I joined the band
I dated Tammy from South Beach Miami
why she split town I can not say
which led me to Mary who lived up in Gary
that’s how I wound up in L.A.

been in every city, every county and state
and every local country bar
but I came to L.A. just to get away
and see if my story would make me a star….

I worked as a plumber, a porter, a painter,
flipped burgers and worked on the land
I fixed transmisssions and lived on commissions
sold products I don’t understand
Used up all the knowledge that I gathered in college
and lived by my wits everyday
but the biggest damn factor is that I am an actor
that’s how I wound up in L.A.
