Turning Of The Screw
(Jack Kennedy)
Turning of the Screw
Don’t go near that place, don’t look in the window
there is not a trace of those who went before.
Something’s watching you, it’s up there in the gables
a turning of the screw, the creak of rusted door……….
A doubting voice inside your skin
demands to know where you have been,
a force that grips, will not let go,
face in the mirror that you already know…..
Here you are again, it’s something you can’t leave alone,
crawling on your skin, seeping in your bones.
Why are you afraid? Why are you attracted?
Once that step is made, you’re in there on your own….
Nothing heard but a pounding heart,
how did you get here, where did it start?
Afraid to move, froze in the hall,
a shadow moves on the opposite wall……
Don’t go near that place, don’t look in the window
there is not a trace of those who went before.
Something’s watching you, it’s up there in the gables
a turning of the screw, the creak of rusted door……….
